It was a sunny day in Suwon today, which is unusual, as usually a blanket of smog covers the sky. Think London fog. As such, I figured I'd take a whole bunch of pictures on my way to work. However, I only ended up taking a few...
Picture #1. This wouldn't be a picture if I had had access to a scanner. I didn't have much luck capturing the true contrast with my camera Perhaps I should have taken the drawings outside in order to capture them in full sunlight. I am proud of this drawing of my hand. It was one of the exercises I did from the book "Drawing on the Right side of the brain". I'd recommend the book. I've been enjoying it immensely.
Picture #2. This started out as a perspective exercise, however I got kind of lazy with it. I added the piano after the fact and it shows. I'm amused that it appears that the piano is falling towards.... nowhere really. Artistic license or something.
Picture #3. Here's a better idea of some of the stuff I've drawn. The wall constitutes a mix of pictures I have drawn both while looking at the objects, and just from my mind. I have more sketches up in various corners, but this is most of them. I've put the good and the bad up on my walls. Back in Canada I wanted to put up some art done by some of my friends. No commercial reprints, just originals done by people I know. I know me, so I guess this is a good start. I should bug artistic people I know here for art. Oh, and none of the charcoal drawings I have done are here...
Picture #4. The gate to this building has styrofoam boxes on top of it. In the styrofoam boxes there appears to be grass growing. Greenery is found in the oddest places here. I'd been wanting to grow something in dirt for awhile. My excuses for not doing so included that the interior of my apartment get's very little sunlight as the window is not very large and coated with something that blocks most of the light... That and I can not wash the windows as they are barred on the outside and I have not had any luck acquiring the key. Seeing this gave me an idea though. There's often a large pile of styrofoam boxes like this sitting near my apartment.. If I can attach the styrofoam boxes to the bars on the outside of my window.. I'd definitely need a ladder and two people to accomplish such... and borrow some soil.. and find something to grow.. I'll have a little garden right outside my window!
Picture #5: I took this shot to further illustrate that plants grow anywhere here. This picture doesn't really illustrate the point as well as I'd hoped. The soil in Suwon is gray. Good to know that the intensity of the sunlight here is so great that the poor soil quality does not seem to be a large detriment. Perhaps they fertilize the soil like crazy. I don't know. The other point of this shot is to show that it's practically impossible to take a picture in the city without high-rise buildings nearby.
