Soooo, considering that this section already is set aside for discussing modern remakes of classic British science fiction franchises ;), what do you all think of the remake of Douglas Adams' classic? I'll hold off my evaluation 'till I've heard more from you guys, so as not to affect your responses.
So Long and Thanks for all the Fish
Well, I have to say that it certainly started with a bang - I couldn't stop giggling for the first, oh, five minutes. After that, it was perhaps less than exactly what I was hoping for - and boy was I disappointed by Zaphod (I'll say no more on that lest someone who has not seen the film happen upon these notes). Though it was entertaining, I felt it moved a bit too slowly - it lacked the hysterically frenetic pacing I'm so fond of from the book. It was also extremely uneven: there were bits that I liked, bits I really liked, bits I really, really, really liked, and bits I was thoroughly bored by. It's really a crying shame that Disney ended up putting up the money - they poison everything they touch. But when push comes to shove, what really matters is would I go and see it knowing what I know now? And the answer is a resounding yes, for one very, very simple reason: Marvin. To whomever hired Alan Rickman to play the voice of Marvin, you have my undying gratitude and a warm fuzzy place in my heart.
ps. And the musical number at the start is pure Douglas Adams - even if it doesn't come from Hitchiker proper.
