Breathe in

Found on my Numi Morning Rise Breakfast Blend of Black Teas: "In the brilliant light of sunrise, bring the freshest of waters to a boil. Breathe in the new day as you pour over a bag of Morning Rise and," etc with fairly normal instructions about steeping the tea and not overdoing it. Now I chose to make and consume this tea at my desk in the office, with the stale air and crappy hot water that comes out of the spigot on the coffee machine. I let it sit until I felt like I wanted to take out the tea bag, about 45 minutes. Wasn't bad after all and I would definitely consume that flavour in the future. Thing is, who in a city, especially if they are a geek, gets up at sunrise and goes hunting for fresh water, let alone has time these days to breathe in anything other than city smog or recycled air?

Just stuff, just because

Just writing because I'm a bit blue and frustrated this afternoon over a couple of trouble tickets I am trying to deal with. Probably just something I am missing or I am not communicating myself to my customers very well. I tried to get some help with them, and got a bit of assistance with one, but not the other because the super claims to be just too busy to help out right now. When his shift was officially over, not more than 10 minutes ago, he left like someone put ants in his pants and happy as a clam. Just makes me feel disregarded and weak because I asked for help in the first place.

I can't afford to let any of this bother me outside of work or anything. I want to be positive for myself and for others, and besides, I get surprises every once in a while about who reads my blog.

Friday 5 from the LJ community friday5org - Advice please!

For those of you starting to wonder, these are all for the same date, just from different sites and services.

1. What specific advice would you give to someone moving into your neighborhood? - The clean community look is quite important here, so please do not leave junk or garbage in your yard or large Christmas decorations up longer than necessary.

2. What specific advice would you give to someone beginning a job at your workplace (or attending school where you study, or, if you’re neither a student nor employed, doing whatever it is you do with your days)? - Take lots of notes for yourself and don't be afraid to ask questions for help when you get stuck.

3. What specific advice would you give to someone who wants to begin an online journal or blog? - Do it because you want to do it, and don't care if you have an audience or not, or what any audience says or might say to you about what you post.

4. What specific advice would you give to someone who wants to take up a hobby you’re really into? - Take it at your own pace, and make sure your limits and goals are reasonable (financial commitment, deadlines, quality, distance, etc.) I am not specific because I am into several hobbies.

5. What specific advice would you give to someone who wants to marry your closest, unmarried friend? - Make sure you treat each other with respect at all times (plus the "golden rule" if you can), be willing to at least consider compromise from time to time and every once in a while let them have their way and another time they may be more willing to let you have yours. Above all, do your best never to go to bed angry with your partner.

Friday Five - Sensations

1. If you had to choose being blind or deaf, what would you choose and why? - Deaf because for me sight is more important and harder to tune out than sound. Without sight, the world can sometimes be really dull and flat. For example, which would be more interesting, a rainy day where you can hear differences in the sound of rain on different objects, or a warm sunny day where there is no wind? You would not be able to gather much info at all about the sunny day.

2. What is the best smell? - Though it may sound odd, the best smell to me is that of my significant other. Even though he keeps himself clean and wears deodorant, the bit of him that gets through to me when I am close to him is the best scent in the world.

3. Would you rather be hot or cold? - Cold because I can put on more layers or turn up the heat. Being hot can make me feel sick because I don't cool off well.

4. What's the worst feeling in the world? - I'd say it's a tie between loneliness and fear.

5. Would you rather have something hurt or something be itchy? - If the hurt is an ache, then hurt because minor itches are easiest for me to make go away by temporarily making the site ache, but also aches are constant enough that you can often tune them out while you can't easily tune out an itch. But if the hurt is more painful, then I guess an itch would be better

Five on Friday - Foolish

1. When was the last time you felt at least a little foolish? - Last night. I was at a laser tag arena with some of my co-workers and I had a minor freakout when I ran into a hanging netting in the dark (I'm kind of afraid of spiders). I got laughed at by some young teen guys.

2. What is the most zany thing you've done in the name of fun? - Zip lines when I was a kid

3. How well do you receive practical jokes? - I don't usually take them very well, they're not really that funny because the ones I get played on me are often hurtful instead of just in jest.

4. Which topics or aspects of life do you feel should be off-limits from jokes? - sexual orientation/preferences, finances, personal habits, visual features, anything that could make a person feel self conscious or lesser than themselves. I also don't feel a joke should physically hurt a person either.

5. What's the funniest practical joke or prank you've heard about or thought up? - Heard about several office decorating schemes either covering everything in a material like tinfoil or post-it notes, or else filling the office with something that would spill out when the office was opened.

Random Questions - An Introduction & Beginning

So I figured that I needed more content in my journal, but didn't really care to start regularly posting more in my journal about my daily life because I'm fairly certain that the vast majority of the people who skim my entries don't care a bit about my entries. Instead, I am going to start posting my answers to various sets of question like those that are/used to be found on sites like fridayfive.org. As you can see, today is Sunday, but due to the way my work schedule works, you won't likely see my answers actually on a Friday. I'm putting this under the quiz category on electeaparty.net because it's questions, but it's not like the other quizzes that initially created this category. Also, though I suspect I will be the only person doing this, I would still be interested in seeing any answers posted by other interested users.

So to start with ...

Friday Fiver for March 30, 2007

1. What web browser do you use? - I use Firefox as much as I can, though occasionally at work I am forced to use Internet Explorer

2. What email client do you use? - At work I use Outlook, but at home I use Mail (a Macintosh app)

3. What type of Internet connection do you have at home? - I have a cable connection

4. What kinda of computer do you have? - At the moment I have both a PC and a Mac, and though Linux is also out there, I feel that for me Mac is close enough

5. When did you first get 'online'? - Sometime in the early to mid 1990's, around about the time that 14.4K modems were pretty normal and 28.8K ones were just starting to be in the computers other kids had at home.

I feel stupid

Shari's dumb thing she did for today: I poured the liquid for my minced pork and garlic soup all over my lap at work. Now my jeans are wet, they are cold and slightly aromatic (though I did try to wipe it off as much as I could) and there is a small damp spot on the seat of my chair. This all combines to make it look like I wet my pants. I feel so embarrassed and uncomfortable.

What the heck?

My last two customers this morning have been both computer inept and arrogant to me. They both needed hand-holding with email setup and were snippy in the extreme. That frustrates me because I am not 100% healthy, so my voice sounds a bit shot. It makes me sound more grumpy when I don't intend it, but right now I am hiding behind it so I don't grouch at people though I am wanting to grouch.

Will edit to add more later.

Commercial holiday an excuse for treats

As a treat for Valentine's Day, our office brought in strawberry shortcake for everyone. Since I cannot eat shortcake, the office administrator was kind enough to bring in fresh raspberries and whipped cream for me to have. It was very yummy!
